Spinach and Feta Puff Pastry Twists Recipe

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped (or 1/2 cup frozen spinach, thawed and drained)
  • 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

For the Pastry:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping

 


Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Filling:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped spinach, crumbled feta cheese, softened cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Prepare the Puff Pastry:

  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth it out. Cut the pastry into rectangles (about 3 inches by 4 inches).
  2. Place a spoonful of the spinach and feta filling in the center of each rectangle.

Twist the Pastry:

  1. Fold each rectangle in half to cover the filling, then twist each filled rectangle to create a spiral shape. Place the twists on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the twists. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top for added texture and flavor.

Bake the Twists:

  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
