For the Brownies:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)

 


Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2: Make the Brownie Batter

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.
  2. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 3: Bake the Brownies

  1. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  3. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack.

Step 4: Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. If the frosting is too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.

Step 5: Frost and Serve

  1. Once the brownies have cooled completely, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the top.
