Ingredients

• 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), melted
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
• 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
• Crushed peppermint candies or candy canes for topping

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven
1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare Baking Pan: Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2: Mix Ingredients
1. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined.
2. Add Eggs and Extracts: Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract. Mix until smooth.
3. Add Dry Ingredients: Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
4. Fold in Chocolate Chips: If using, fold in the chocolate chips for extra richness.

Step 3: Bake the Brownies
1. Pour Batter: Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
2. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Step 4: Cool and Top
1. Cool: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 10-15 minutes before cutting.
2. Top with Peppermint: Once cooled, sprinkle crushed peppermint candies or candy canes over the top for a festive touch.

Step 5: Serve
1. Cut and Enjoy: Cut into squares and enjoy your delicious peppermint brownies!
