  • Author: I
  • Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

Scale

For the Apple Filling:

  • 68 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for thickening)

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans, optional)

For the Hot Honey Drizzle:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 12 teaspoons red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2: Prepare the Apple Filling

  1. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and cornstarch. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  2. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or a similar-sized oven-safe dish.

Step 3: Make the Crisp Topping

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  2. Pour in the melted butter and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is crumbly.
  3. If using, fold in the chopped nuts for added crunch.

Step 4: Assemble and Bake

  1. Evenly spread the crisp topping over the apple filling in the baking dish.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

Step 5: Prepare the Hot Honey Drizzle

  1. In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the honey until it becomes more fluid.
  2. Stir in the red pepper flakes, adjusting the amount to your preferred spice level. Remove from heat.

Step 6: Serve

  1. Let the apple crisp cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
  2. Serve warm, drizzled with the hot honey mixture. It pairs wonderfully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!
