  • Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk (warm)
  • 1/2 cup water (warm)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs

For the Cinnamon Filling

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Cream Cheese Glaze

  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Dough

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Add Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, melted butter, and eggs. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients.
  3. Mix in Remaining Flour: Gradually add the remaining flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 2: Knead the Dough

  1. Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 3: Let the Dough Rise

  1. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 4: Prepare the Filling

  1. Mix Filling Ingredients: In a small bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until well mixed.

Step 5: Roll Out the Dough

  1. Roll the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16×12 inches).
  2. Spread Filling: Evenly spread the cinnamon filling over the rolled-out dough.

Step 6: Form the Rolls

  1. Roll Up: Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  2. Slice Rolls: Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.

Step 7: Second Rise

  1. Let Rise Again: Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.

Step 8: Bake the Rolls

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake: Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 9: Make the Cream Cheese Glaze

  1. Combine Glaze Ingredients: In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 10: Serve

  1. Glaze the Rolls: Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before drizzling with the cream cheese glaze.
  2. Enjoy: Serve warm and enjoy!
