  • 2 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

 


Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

Step 2: Mix Wet Ingredients

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas. Add the melted butter, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.

Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients

  1. In another bowl, whisk together the baking soda, salt, and flour until evenly mixed.

Step 4: Combine Mixtures

  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  2. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).

Step 5: Bake

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 6: Cool and Serve

  1. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Once cooled, slice into bars and serve. Enjoy as a snack or dessert!
