Ingredients
For the Sandwich:
• 1 loaf Cuban bread (or hoagie rolls)
• 1/2 pound roasted pork, sliced or shredded
• 1/2 pound ham, sliced
• 1/2 pound salami, sliced
• 1/2 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
• 1/4 cup dill pickles, sliced
• 1/4 cup yellow mustard
• 1 tablespoon olive oil (for grilling)
For the Chopped Salad (optional):
• 1 cup lettuce, shredded
• 1/2 cup tomatoes, diced
• 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
• 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
• 1 tablespoon lime juice
• Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Chopped Salad (Optional)
1. Mix Salad Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced red onion, chopped cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper. Toss well and set aside.
Step 2: Assemble the Sandwich
1. Slice the Bread: Cut the Cuban bread or hoagie rolls in half lengthwise.
2. Layer the Ingredients: Spread yellow mustard on both halves of the bread. Layer the roasted pork, ham, salami, Swiss cheese, and dill pickles on the bottom half of the bread.
3. Top with Salad: If using, add a generous amount of the chopped salad on top of the meat and cheese layers.
Step 3: Grill the Sandwich
1. Heat the Skillet: In a large skillet or griddle, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
2. Grill the Sandwich: Place the assembled sandwich on the skillet, pressing down gently with a spatula. Grill for about 3-5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. You can use a weight or another skillet to press down for a panini effect.
Step 4: Serve
1. Slice and Serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it cool for a minute. Slice it in half and serve warm.
