For the Base:
- 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
- 2 cups pretzel sticks (broken into pieces)
- 2 cups mini marshmallows
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup white chocolate chips (optional for drizzling)
For Topping (optional):
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (e.g., pecans or walnuts)
- 1/2 cup crushed candy canes (for a festive touch)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Crockpot
- Grease the inside of your crockpot with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Step 2: Melt the Base Ingredients
- In the crockpot, add the unsalted butter and brown sugar. Stir to combine.
- Cover and cook on low for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
Step 3: Add Remaining Ingredients
- Stir in the graham cracker crumbs until fully incorporated.
- Gently fold in the broken pretzel pieces and mini marshmallows until evenly distributed.
Step 4: Cook the Mixture
- Cover the crockpot and cook on low for an additional 1 to 1.5 hours, stirring every 30 minutes, until the mixture is heated through and the marshmallows are melted.
Step 5: Set and Cool
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan. Use a spatula to spread it evenly and press it down gently.
- Allow the mixture to cool completely at room temperature.
Step 6: Add Toppings (if desired)
- Melt the semi-sweet and white chocolate chips separately in the microwave or using a double boiler.
- Once the base is cooled and set, drizzle the melted chocolate over the top. Sprinkle chopped nuts or crushed candy canes if desired.
Step 7: Cut and Serve
- Once the chocolate has set, cut the Christmas Crack into squares or bars.
