Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2: Prepare the Dough

  1. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
  2. Add Eggs: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).

Step 3: Bake the Cookies

  1. Prepare Baking Sheets: Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Scoop Dough: Drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie to allow for spreading.
  3. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are just set.

Step 4: Cool and Serve

  1. Cool on Baking Sheets: Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
