Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of crusty bread (such as French or Italian)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley (or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Optional: Extra herbs for garnish (like basil or chives)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Step 2: Prepare the Bread
- Cut the Bread: Using a serrated knife, make vertical cuts in the bread about 1 inch apart, being careful not to cut all the way through the bottom. Then, make horizontal cuts to create a grid pattern.
- Mix Butter and Garlic: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, dried parsley, dried oregano, and salt.
Step 3: Assemble the Bread
- Brush the Mixture: Carefully spread the garlic butter mixture between the cuts in the bread, ensuring it seeps into the cracks.
- Add Cheese: Stuff the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese into the cuts of the bread, making sure to distribute it evenly.
Step 4: Bake the Bread
- Wrap in Foil: Wrap the bread in aluminum foil and place it on a baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, unwrap the foil and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread is golden.
Step 5: Serve
- Garnish and Enjoy: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with extra herbs if desired, then serve warm for pulling apart and enjoying.
