Ingredients
• 12 ounces fresh cranberries (about 3 cups)
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1 cup water (or orange juice for added flavor)
• 1 teaspoon orange zest (optional, for extra citrus flavor)
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for warmth)
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
1. Rinse the Cranberries: Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or damaged berries.
Step 2: Cook the Cranberry Sauce
1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and water (or orange juice).
2. Add Flavorings: If using, add the orange zest, ground cinnamon, and salt to the saucepan.
3. Bring to a Boil: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
4. Simmer: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes. The cranberries will burst and the sauce will thicken. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Step 3: Cool and Serve
1. Cool Down: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
2. Store: Transfer the sauce to a serving dish or airtight container. It can be served immediately or refrigerated for up to one week.
