Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (16 oz) refrigerated pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup cooked sausage, pepperoni, or veggies (like spinach or mushrooms)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Marinara sauce (for dipping)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Filling
- Mix Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, cooked sausage (or other fillings), Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Step 2: Roll Out the Dough
- Prepare Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle or circle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut into Pieces: Cut the dough into equal-sized circles (about 6–8 inches in diameter) using a pizza cutter or a round cutter.
Step 3: Fill the Calzones
- Add Filling: Place a generous spoonful of the cheese mixture on one half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edge.
- Fold and Seal: Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal, and use a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.
Step 4: Prepare for Air Frying
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush with Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the calzones with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
Step 5: Air Fry the Calzones
- Arrange in Air Fryer: Place the calzones in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they are not touching (you may need to do this in batches).
- Cook: Air fry for 10–15 minutes, or until the calzones are golden brown and cooked through. Check for doneness and adjust cooking time if necessary.
Step 6: Serve
- Cool Slightly: Allow the calzones to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Enjoy: Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
